My job at the time, just east of Des Moines, faced northwest so we could see it coming in. The building had double doors and the wind was blowing so hard that it was pushing rainwater in through the cracks of the door. Similar to how hurricane winds just push water. It was a surreal experience. Thankfully the building itself was rated for winds about twice what the derecho produced so we were safe, but it was absolute wild watching this thing move through the area. Definitely didn't get the worst of it.

Im not going to lie it works good for gaming but its constantly having lag spikes while playing warzone or apex. But most other games like far cry, halo, gta are a lot more solid. Still better than it was a while back but yeah. Wondering if there are any settings that could help improve this?

I would love to see some improvements to this game. First of all, there needs to be purple outlines for tornadoes that have hit the ground. Second, there needs to be all sorts of flood outlines as well. Third, there needs to be an option where you can either make the warned areas a solid color or alternate between black and the watch/warning color. Fourth, there needs to be a partnership with something like, say, Google Maps to cover real world tornado prone areas. Fifth, not a lot of people get this, but Canada, and, surprisingly, Bangladesh, are also tornado prone areas, so, at the very least, those two countries, and obviously the USA, need actual Google Maps based content in the game. Sixth, there needs to be actual chatter on the radio, like the radio DJs talking about the storms, NOAA Weather Radio channels to access and the Paul II voice giving out the warnings and information, along with EAS tones and SAME tones. Seventh, there needs to be television channels that have meteorologists that are on them that are talking about the storms, tornadoes, and such. Eighth, and lastly, there needs to be real world drones, as well as vehicles, that can be customized in the game. Yes, that might mean more licenses, and ditto for the other stuff, but I think that it would make things a lot better.

I'm here because of Spectrum. Spectrum is absolute garbage and I have been waiting for the moment that Starlink could get consistent low ping and upload speeds above 30 Mbps. Sounds like we're close.

Believe it or not I am still using this PC. I added a bottom of the barrel graphics card some time ago. It is slowing down quite badly but has been a fantastic work horse.

There you have it, "The storm grew stronger hour by hour..." Plenty of time to get in your car and drive in the opposite direction if you don't have adequate safe shelter.

Tornados most always give plenty of warnings for humans to get out of their way. But noooo, the tornado chasers and gawkers have to get the last look before they die. Never mess with Nature. You will always lose 👍

What about using a service like Speedify to bond Starlink and DSL? Has anyone tried gaming with that setup? The sales pitch is that the DSL provides stability solutions while Starlink provides faster Download and supplemental upload speeds. Again, this question is for the folks living in rural America where just basic DSL is low speeds and running over old phone lines.

I have a Co called HughesNet in my area where NOTHING else is available. And my latency is 680 - 900 ms. And the packet loss is 66% about 15 - 40% of the time. And I play Gran Turismo 7. So even if I had 150ms, it would at least keep my car from skipping to California and back every few seconds.

Considering it's been a year since this storm happened, I should tell my story, as a loyal KCRG viewer. It was already a very hot day, the hottest of the year so far, in fact. The SPC had issued an Enhanced risk for the area, with wind and hail highlighted as the main threats. Meanwhile, RAGBRAI were stopping off in Coralville, which was in the line of fire (and in fact even hotter), and I spent the afternoon catastrophising to my family via text. Right after the sirens started going off, the power went out. I'd been in the basement for a few hours with the lights on. My father, who doesn't quite take these storms seriously, had to go upstairs and get a lantern just so we could see. (my phone was at 50 percent or less - I was catastrophising on the phone with my mum, who miraculously was not affected by this storm at all) I stayed in the very dark room for about 20 more minutes until the storm had passed, at which point I went back up. The sun came back out for one last gasp (barely) at about 10PM as I lay in bed. The power came back on at about 8AM the following morning. It was the first time we had a power outage lasting more than an hour since 2020.

I moved from an Internet paradise to the worst and most expensive internet country in Europe, GERMANY! I pay 85 Euro per month for DSL, and it's so bad. Now I'm on RUclips watching STARLINK internet, and it's giving me a good feeling. Costs 50 Euro per month, and there are NO limits, and it is REALLY 100 times faster than what I have now. So guess what I'm going to do :)

Thanks for the video, Nick. I just moved out to the country on 17 acres and got Starlink. It’s WAY better in speeds than my prior internet. However, the packet bursts in call of duty multiplayer matches is HORRIBLE. It’s non stop and I’m noticing that’s a common issue with Starlink users. Do you have any remedies for the packet bursts? A third party router? Thanks man!

Its good but i get big lag spikes up into 900ms and then my game freezes then resumes for another quarter of the round

i just got starlink and my lantancy its avg 300+, i struggle to get 10fps on OV, ( and no its NOT playable ) BUT every 3 days or so ill get an hour or 2 of smooth internet so it's worth the 120$ mouth.
